Musaceae

Musaceae or the banana family is the most primitive of the order Zingiberales. It has a paleotropical distribution (Asian, African, and Australian tropics). There are three genera Ensete, Musa, and Musella and about 40 species. Plants are characterized by very thick pseudostem. Underground structures are in the form of corms or rhizomes. Flowers are not very showy and it's often times that the bracts are colorful. Flowers are pollinated by insects, birds and bats. The genus Musa or banana/plantain is an economically important genus and is planted throughout the wet tropics.

We have all three genera, Ensete, Musa, and Musella represented on the wiki.
