Crinum Hybrids Red

This page contains information about Crinum hybrids with rose red or deep pink flowers.

Crinum 'Antares' is a hybrid of C. 'Ellen Bosanquet' × C. 'J.C. Harvey' induced by Alani Davis. Unlike its sister seedling, 'Infusion', 'Antares' is a huge plant that does not offset readily. Photos taken June 2006 by Alani Davis.

Crinum 'Birthday Party' is a hybrid of C. 'Bradley Giant' × C. scabrum made by Luther Bundrant. It has large, wide open, fragrant, rose-red flowers. Photos taken June 2009 by Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Bradley' is a hybrid of unknown parentage which probably involves C. scabrum and C. flaccidum made by H.B. Bradley. It has open-faced, fragrant, pink flowers on tall scapes. The foliage is untidy and sprawls on the ground like the C. flaccidum parent. Photo taken by Alani Davis.

Crinum 'Burgundy' is probably a hybrid of C. scabrum × C. moorei. It looks much like 'Ellen Bosanquet'. Photos taken July 2009 by Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Carnival' is a hybrid of C. bulbispermum × C. 'Thaddeus Howard' made by T. M. Howard in 1964. It often has random white streaks on its rose red flowers, as well as subtle darker stripes along the petal keels. Because of the random white streaks it has been described as a chimera by several authors, but unless genetic tests have been performed this claim is dubious. 'Candy Ruffles' is its less well known sister seedling. Photos taken May 2007 by Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Eagle Rock' is a hybrid of unknown ancestry but based on its appearance and bloom season it seems related to the C. × powellii group. It has dark pink flowers on very tall scapes up to 6 feet (180 cm) that may topple if not staked. There is some confusion surrounding this plant and it has been recently sold as both 'Hannibal One' (same plant, different name) and 'Cape Dawn' (a different plant). Crinum 'Elizabeth Traub' is a hybrid of C. scabrum × C. 'Ellen Bosanquet' made by Hamilton Traub. The scapes are tall, up to 4 feet (120 cm), and sometimes flop if not staked. Photos taken July 2006 by Jay Yourch & Alani Davis.

Crinum 'Ellen Bosanquet' is a choice hybrid made by Louis Bosanquet circa 1915. According to T.M. Howard, its ancestry was never revealed, but the parents might be C. scabrum × C. 'J.C. Harvey'. It produces large bell-shaped flowers of dark rose-red on stems up to 3 feet (90 cm) tall. Flowers appear in summer, and healthy established clumps can produce a succession of flowering stems. The soft semi-erect foliage is evergreen in warm climates. Associating it with plants with grey and silver foliage sets the dark flowers off particularly well. Photos by Bill Dijk and Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Infusion' is a hybrid of C. 'Ellen Bosanquet' × C. 'J.C. Harvey' made by Alani Davis. It offsets readily and is more compact than the parents. The hot pink flowers are large and well formed. 'Antares' is its big sister seedling. Photos taken by Alani Davis and Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Sunbonnet' is a hybrid of C. 'Ellen Bosanquet' × C. bulbispermum made by Tom Perry. Compared to its sister seedling, 'Super Ellen', 'Sunbonnet' has shorter and more spreading foliage, shorter scapes, and darker, nearly red, flowers. Photos taken June 2006 by Jay Yourch.

Crinum 'Super Ellen' is a hybrid of C. 'Ellen Bosanquet' × C. bulbispermum made by Tom Perry and a sister seedling to 'Sunbonnet'. It is a gigantic plant with sturdy scapes to 6 feet (180 cm) and is seed fertile with hand pollination. Photos of flowering plant taken June 2006 by Jay Yourch.
