I experimented a bit with my seeds.  The most successful place for the seeds to germinate was in the fridge, though some also germinated in the unheated greenhouse.  A heated part of my house was not appreciated

I did not take note of how long the seedlings continued to grow, but I suspect it was perhaps only the first year.

Maybe I should try a couple more and pay better attention.   Just a couple of species and keep the pots in several different areas.
