Seed is on its way!

I wanted to let those of you who ordered seed from Seed Exchange 13 that is on its way. Most of you should get your seed packets within a week.

Although I randomize the orders I also try to make sure that everyone gets some of their most wanted items. This only works to a point. If I only have three packets of something and five people have them as a first choice someone is going to lose out. It is helpful to me if you list your requests in order of preference and star your all time favorite pick. I realize this is the opposite of what the big seed exchanges tell you to do but our exchange is much smaller in terms of both orders and seed. I have all the seed in front of me when I pull orders so it’s easy for me to pull items by preference rather than in their numeric order on the list. If the exchange got much larger this might not be possible but for now it’s workable.

I was surprised how many of you wanted Erythronium revolutum and colchicum seed. A couple of you missed out this year but I should have more seed next year, particularly of the erythronium. It can become almost a weed in the Pacific Northwest. I would like to encourage people to grow and send in seed of hardy bulbs. There are lots of them out there.

Now a special message for our New Zealanders and Canadians. Stamps.com <http://stamps.com/> automatically routes all international mail through Global Post. This is not a good thing because Global Post will not ship seed. You can see the problem here. So I took all of my international padded envelopes to the post office and mailed them from there. This is not ideal because it costs you a bit more but you have a better chance of getting the seed. I would appreciate it if you could let me know at seedyjan1@gmail.com <mailto:seedyjan1@gmail.com> when you receive the seed. I want to make sure the seed is getting through.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jan
