Cyrtanthus Dormancy?

A collection of bulbs sourced from Jim Waddick’s hybrid Cyrtanthus offered in the June 2012 BX #311 show such inconsistency in their bloom that I’m not sure if they’re winter or summer dormant. Sometimes they bloom in summer and prolifically. Sometimes in autumn. Sometimes not at all. After dividing, the largest bulb kept producing bloom stalks for many months, but this past year only a single bulb sent up one bloom stalk.

Never having been certain about how to treat Cyrtanthus in my Northern California climate, I’ve this autumn - for the first time - moved the bulb pots into an unheated indoor space. After a month they remain determinedly green with only a bit of foliage die back now.

Can I assume these are winter dormant? If so, is my treatment during dormancy likely to be successful?

Many thanks for any advice from those who know.
