Hi, Diane. My dahlia growing friend lives in Oysterville, WA, about 2 miles north of my place. He has a warm microclimate area for his garden, but even then, most years his tree dahlias do not flower. In the 1980s I grew D. imperialis from seed, and it flowered for 2-3 years, every November into December. Then an ice storm and cold spell came along one winter and froze it out.
