Jane asked "Kathleen's other mention is A. scorzoneriifolium (are there two i's in the name?)"  The name is derived from the genus name Scorzonera, so one i is enough! Scorzonera hispanica is the vegetable known as black salsify.
In 2006 I received a bulb under the name Jane used - Allium scorzoneriifolium ssp xericense, also spelled with the ii.
Jim McKenneyMontgomery County, Maryland, USA, USDA zone 7, where Allium cristophii is putting on a good display.
