ICBN and ICNCP

Dear PBSers,

This can’t help but sound condescending, but all this blather about plant names, plurals and capitals etc. is somewhat discouraging in that NO ONE has mentioned the ICBN (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature) and ICNCP (International Code of Names of Cultivated Plants). These publications lay out just about every bit of information that has been lacking. Both are available on line in various editions.

Add to that a basic grammar book or “Elements of Style’ regarding rules for capitalization, common names, proper names, foreign words (Latin), plurals etc.

Just some what boggled and probably sorry I even jumped into this mess.
