Dennis's query underlines the need to avoid abbreviation and common names for 
plants (and places, when it come down to it).

Thus:

"Hippeastrum" instead of "h."

"Vancouver, BC" instead of "YVR"

"Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody" instead of "Tri-cities".

"Pasadena, California" instead of "zip 91109"

"Canada" or "California" instead of "Ca" or "CA"

"New York City" (or NYC) or "New York state" instead of "NY"

Notice that NYC, being absolutely unambiguous, escapes my strictures.


This mailing list is international in scope, and no one very far away will 
understand colloquial place names, no matter how popular locally.
