How was the parrot?

Not sure if this will help.  My Africa grey got to one of my hippeastrum.  She chunked the entire top half of it.  I figured it was toast for sure.  I left it in the pot, didn't have time to deal with it, and then kinda forgot about it.  They were after Christmas rescues, Red Lion mostly.  It sent out leaves this past month with the rest of them like it had never been traumatized by a parrot.  Whether it will bloom again remains to be seen.
Can you cut the top off and repot it?
I've tried the method that Veronica Read talks about, chipping the bulb, but I've not had success with it.
