Travis,
Small alliums (e.g., senescens 'Blue Eddy').  I have grown in shallow troughs for a number of years.  Some have gone 5 years before renewal of growing medium with no problems.

 Hello,

I've been wanting to make some Ian Young style troughs for some time now. Months ago I went to a local supermarket deli and asked if they had any fish boxes, which they did, so I now have two. Someday I'll actually mortar them and landscape them with broken concrete and rocks, etc.

My question: What bulbs like growing in troughs? Do bulbs dwindle if they aren't refreshed every few years (by dumping the contents and adding fresh growing medium)? Ian grows Galanthus and Tecophilaea in troughs. Anyone else grow bulbs in troughs?
