Years ago when I first started with digital photography, I decided to store my images by botanical name. There is a folder for genus (now up to well over 800 genera) and subfolders for species, cultivated forms and whatever else seems appropriate (most acquisitions have an accession number, and this is often the ultimate folder; as the years pass, the names under which plants have been acquired seem less and less reliable). Then something happened which I did not anticipate: I started to blog and found the convenience of images grouped by date very appealing. Once I got into this, something else happened: I got lazy about labeling the images. Don't make that mistake! So now I've got hundreds (thousands?) of unlabeled images which I am slowly identifying and copying to the genus/species folder system.
