In this regard of cultivated species changing so much - line bred
orchids (staying within the species and not hybridized often no longer
resemble their wild ancestors. The flowers are larger and bulkier and
may no longer be suitable for their natural pollinators, instead now
evolving to suit the tastes of their artificial pollinators, man. In
addition with every generation the seeds germinate more easily and
growth is more vigorous and consistent - not in synch with the seasons
and vagaries of ancestral climates which may demand some dormancy.
