Tulipa sprengeri was growing species tulips from seed

Thanks, Mary Sue - the Scottish Rock Garden Club takes its remit to share,
support,  encourage and enthuse very seriously.

  I would be happy to wait even  seven years for T. sprengeri flowers 
if, at the end
  of the process, I had them in profusion and naturalising themselves in 
the garden -
  but , as with your experience -  we have struggled to get this to happen.
  Perhaps it makes me delight all the more in the "penny numbers" of 
flowers that we have
  but really I am terribly envious of our friends who have copious 
quantities of these very elegant bulbs
  blooming so happily in their gardens.
  I try not to be  jealous but I do think this is one of the nicest 
tulips and when it does so well  elsewhere
  I just  want to have hundreds of them.
  I just LOVE this flower!
