Prosartes hookerii seedlings

I took advantage of a mild dry week in my garden to dig, divide and transplant several large ferns and shrubs, and to plant out seedlings. When I took the Prosartes seedlings out of their pots, I was intrigued to find that all had moved to the bottom of 6 inch pots, and had new shoots 2-3 inches tall, along with numerous healthy new roots. This species is somewhat like Alstromerias in having a diffuse root network well below ground.

It was heartening to see the vigor of those new shoots. I'm hoping for flowers later this year.

Cheers,
Kathleen
