What's in Bloom

The Scadoxus puniceus in the greenhouse are starting to bloom.  They seem 
to be as reliable as clockwork.  Some send the scape up with the leaves, 
others send up the bare scape and wait till later for the leaves.  Scadoxus 
puniceus seems to have a very wide range -- South Africa to at least East 
Africa -- so I would expect some variability.  I have not seen any of the 
plants of puniceus from East Africa.

The Lachenalia there have been blooming awhile, but after a couple of very 
bright, sunny days (hot greenhouse!) and one very cold night (frosty in the 
greenhouse) most of them are looking pretty scraggly.

One variegate leaf hybrid Lachenalia from a nursery in South Africa is 
looking quite good.  At the moment the only picture of it is at:
