Years ago when I had a thing for pinks (dianthus), I would notice good plants 
here and there as I wandered about in the spring. No one ever refused my 
request for a few cuttings. In fact, I had the sense that many people were 
quite flattered that something in their garden had aroused acquisitive 
instincts.
