Hector Harrison used to grow his snowdrops in his veg plot in rows and use round-up on them after they died down. This kept the ground clear. But I would not like to eat the potatoes that are grown around here. They use it to defoliate the crop before harvesting. They don't do this on carrots nor salsify I notice I used it when a gardening apprentice about thirty five years ago and got some on my hands accidentally. I still have the scars...
