I never met him in person either, but bought an occasional plant or two from him. In the grand tradition of almost all plant people being really nice people however, he once upon a time allowed me to piggyback on a shipment of Cryptostephanus haemanthoides he made to a group that was going to go through the arduous process of importing live plants into Australia so that I could send several friends there some bulbs of Paramongaia weberbaueri. He didn't ask for any money whatsoever, and, at least via email, seemed happy to do this favor, even though I didn't know him personally.

I had wondered what was going on in the past year or so. It is sad that this happened to him.
