storing winter-growing bulbs during dormancy

Everyone,

Thank you for all the fascinating and informative feedback.  There's a lot to absorb (excuse the pun).

I think assessing the roots of bulbs in dormancy will do a lot to inform me whether or not to water.  Last year my little yearling bulbs (lifted by me, I know, not great) spent a long dry summer in envelopes, and when planted this year, grew well and some even flowered.  As this success involved no summer watering, I think I'll follow the same path again.

As mentioned, I've really enjoyed reading the thread.  Lots of valuable info.  Thanks a lot.

David.
