It brings back memories for me, too. Forty-five years ago I was a medic in the Army stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. I lived in an old, meat-wagon style ambulance while covering training exercises out, far out, in the field. On several occasions I had the totally enchanting experience of seeing the fields and scrub around the base camp burst into bloom as thousands of rain lilies emerged after rain storms. The big white flowers were briefly everywhere. For someone who grew up on the East Coast, it was wonderful and amazing beyond words.
