Hi, Tulipa saxitalis or ?T. bakeri?, a pink tulip with a yellow center and slightly fragrant has gone gangbusters for me for in inland valley No. Calif. for 15 years. It opens broadly during the day. It is native to Crete which is chilly in winter and hot in summer. Here we get frost in winter and bake in summer. I planted half a dozen from a catalog in a clump next to a tree and now there are 40+ surrounding the tree. They are sprinkled in summer along with the surrounding lawn. I ignore them and they reward me. Bob Werra
