I would also add that the resource exploiting part makes it sound worse than it should. The local people want to be the beneficiaries of the resources, not the state and federal governments. State and National forest land was claimed, not for preservation, but for logging interests so the government could lease that land to loggers. You only need to spend a day or so to see all the logging trucks coming out of the national forests.
