Here's another example of just how cold adapted theses plants can be.

In the autumn of 2010 I obtained some bulbs of 'Rolf Fiedler'. The outdoor planting season came and went; I was very busy with other things and never got the bulbs planted. I put them in a small zip lock bag with a light sprinkle of water and then in the refrigerator. Then I forgot about them. Now fast forward about 18 months. I found them in the refrigerator a few weeks ago. I potted them up a week ago, and within a few days the budded scapes which had developed in the bag in the refrigerator pushed up and began to open flowers. They were still in bloom when I saw them this morning.
