sending bulbs to Australia

Hi fellow Adelaidean,
Seeds alone are quite enough of a hassle, although now I always have the ICON AQIS search page open when eyeing off the PBS offerings. Only 2 of the PBS seed packets have been held up by quarantine and both eventually let through, mostly because they are clearly labelled "clean seed" and the full species name on the outer envelope, thank you Mr Sherk! And of course with seed there is the gamble of getting them to germinate and you have to wait longer for blooms.
(unrelated topic - anyone have seed for Ferraria ferriola?)
I hear on the grapevine that Marcus Harvey at Hillview Rare Plants in Hobart has the permit/set-up/facilities to import bulbs, so you may possibly be able to come to some sort of arrangement with him, if he has already jumped through some of the flaming hoops. The expense and red tape are certainly enough to ensure that it's not something to just idly dabble in, so it may be easier to pay someone who is already equipped. He is zone 8ish so caters for those kind of covetable treasures.
Good luck,
Ceridwen

Zone 9 (though I am in Climate Zone Denial and try to grow Nomocharis...got one flower this year!)
Lilium grayi up and not dead yet, yay!

Previously we had set up a quarantine area at our home which was easily done and then we paid for periodic inspections for a growth season. The last time (2003) I put them into the quarantine facility in Brisbane because we had moved too far from Brisbane which made the inspection trips too expensive. The people in quarantine took great interest in my bulbs and did a fantastic job of growing them on. Seeds are much easier and can be sent through the post with certain restrictions.. Rules change so I don't know if the situation is still the same.
