Is a "cultivar" not defined as a named clonal form of a plant?? this is
what I take it to mean and I use the word often.
I describe Tomato "Shirley F1" as a *seed strain*. I describe "Iris aucheri
Snow Princess" as a cultivar, I also describe "Iris aucheri Snow White" as
a cultivar. I would describe white seedlings of Iris aucheri, including
these, as "Iris aucheri alba." I would describe a single random white
seedling of Iris aucheri as "a clone of Iris aucheri alba". It could only
become a "cultivar" after being named and described for features which
would make it distinct from other from other seedlings (clones) of "Iris
aucheri alba"
Is my use of these terms incorrect?
