All My Hippeastrum Seedlings Were Devoured!

I did happen to see the caterpillars, they were black with white stripes *or is
it white with black stripes?*, small little things! I had the same problem with
my Scadoxus this year, the caterpillar had chewed through the emerging leaf and
laid eggs inside while all the time she was eating away! I don't want to kill
them, they're what help pollinate my plants :) I guess they have to pollinate
so they'll have a food source in the future, eh?

Hi Josh,

I'm sorry to hear about your seedling losses. I have lost some myself lately
due to some slugs. Have you observed caterpillars eating the leaves? If not,
I think slugs/snails would be the more likely culprit. They do love to
munch on seedling leaves. Slugs can be deterred by using the less toxic
product Sluggo. Sprinkle the pellets heartily on the surface of your pots.
