A careful reading of the rules of nomenclature has been suggested as a
solution to Donnie's queries about the treatment of a seemingly hybrid
opuntia.

If Donnie's most basic question was "should this entity be treated as a
species or as a hybrid?", then it's important to keep in mind that the
answer to that question has nothing at all to do with rules of nomenclature.
In fact, it is only after that question is resolved that the rules of
nomenclature begin to play a role.
