We can grow different bulbs and plants than what I was used to in my native state of Michigan ... however, there are many bulbs I grew in Michigan which do not do well at all here ... and I miss seeing them.  I did plant a number of supposedly mild winter tolerant Narcissus ... however, only the one in the link below has successfully come back each year.  Unfortunately, I've lost the tag which IDd the cultivar.  Anybody know or guess from the picture:
