Pursuant to Alberto's recommendation of pyrethroids: for those who don't object to using them, and have their plants in contained and easily ventilated spaces, the foggers sold at every box store for use against fleas and similar in your house can be amazingly easy and effective weapons against house-plant insect infestations.  Because this is not a listed use, it is technically illegal, I think, but the logic of that one has always escaped me, and I leave it to the conscience of the individual.  I suppose you can regard the deaths of aphids, thrips, etc as collateral damage while you're going after those fleas that the dog brought in...
