Pots vs. In Ground Culture

Hi Linda:
That most interesting thread on finding sources for the containers, buckets, etc. that Joe Shaw was after lasted for a number of days. It was great to see how many good bulb friends know of local and nation wide dealers.
This article you reprint now deals with the same subject: nothing can beat growing bulbs in the open ground. And in the article's writer and many others growers' experiences growing them in pots is a lot less satisfactory. Most of us are witness of the same results. BUT, what the post was all about from the beginning is that what makes pot culture insatisfactory is the bonsai effect produced by small pots. And that by using really big containers you can mimick free range conditions a lot.

Best
Alberto
