Apologies to Jim McKenney. When talking to blockheads like me, you have to be more direct. Of course, you are right -- no irids, as far as I'm aware, have leaf petioles. What I was incorrectly calling a petiole, is correctly called a pedicel. Sorry to have caused all this confusion.
