Susan Hayek asked: Does anyone in the UK grow Dahlia imperialis (Tree
Dahlia) outside?

Yes they do, and it becomes a magnificent foliage plant, but never reaches
flowering before the frosts arrive. Frustrating for those who object to
missing the undersized flowers. It is usually lifted and stored for the
winter, but would probably survive as tubers in the ground in warm gardens.
