Jim:

It seems that each organism has a particular chemistry that treat some 
substances as deadly poisons and others as a harmless  component.  The 
real interesting part is that everything I have read says that slugs 
will seek out cardiocrinum leaves for miles and eat them over anything 
else.  My cardiocrinum has been untouched for years by slugs.

Go figure.
