my Beaucarnea

Dear Carol, Rand and Fred:
Yes, Beaucarnea has a mat of
superficial roots over a large area. This is normally found in most cacti
and desert plants and is an adaptation to take advantage of any night dew or
the scant rainfall that will necessarily not percolate deep into the
ground. Donating your plant, Carol, will be a great experience when you see
it grow to enormous proportions once free. And yes, such a small pot size
will make a bonsai of a beaucarnea or any other plant. I once had one in a
concret pot with only the bottle out and its growth was obviously
restricted until shifted to bigger containers.
Regards
Alberto
