ground cover for summer dormant bulbs

I use vinca minor which works well in  a temperate climate. It may cover too well, but my bulbs grow through it very well. It spreads fast and in time fills up to an inch or two of pretty leaves and blue-violet flowers. Here all year round despite frost.
