Different composts

I think you professionals probably buy compost and you report that it has a tendency to become dust and therefore plants can get waterlogged.

We amateurs use our own homemade compost which definitely has a good open structure and never turns to dust. If it were a bad material, I would have given it up after one trial.

There is wood in it, undigested. Half-digested plant rests. Completely digested stuff. It is not a standarized product.
