One thing that might do some good if you can do it, is to wait for him 
with the garden hose ready and when you see him, give him a sharp and 
sudden soaking. Some cats will learn to stay away after one or two 
'baths' but some take several wettings, and of course I am sure some will 
just learn to avoid that two-legged creature with the lo-o-o-o-nnnnng 
skinny arm.

BB guns are also popular, you can put in rock salt and thus only hurt him 
a little but that may be illegal where you live.
