Dear Mary Sue and all,

Since this is my first foray into this forum, I'll introduce myself. I am Shelley Gage and live about 20 km from the east coast of Queensland, north of Brisbane, level with Fraser Island. The climate is sub-tropical-I don't know which zone.I have a 10 acre red soil small crops farm on the side of a mountain. (in Qld 380m is a mountain!)

In one paddock I have a range of hybrid hippeastrums destined for sale when I retire. Being a fulltime teacher with three almost teenagers I don't have the time to market the bulbs. My real interest is in trialing many other amaryllids which I believe would grow very well here. This lead me to the Symposium in South Africa which far exceeded my expectations. I would love to go to another conference in South Africa but would like to see the summer growing amaryllids in flower. If anyone hears of a gathering in South America( Brazil, Chile) please let me know for that would be another once in a lifetime experience. I won't wax lyrical about the Symposium except to say that the feeling of being with 88 or so other like-minded souls bottomsup at Swellendam, examining, discussing and photographing flowers and in the case of amaryllid leaves was an incredibly exhilarating experience and I can't wait to do it again.

Shelley.
