spring seed sowing

OK, everyone, here's a question from someone who's still a novice...

Now that you've all been so good about telling Dell during which season seeds
sent to the SX should be sown, I know that I've got some to sow this spring.
But when does spring really begin here in zone 9 (more or less)? Which is
crucial for germination - the time, or the temperature? Spring temps here are
certainly very different from those back east where several of our members
garden. Since I don't get the cool spring temps, do I need to put my spring-
sown seeds into the fridge for some amount of time?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
