Imidacloprid is also the effective chemical in Bayer's Advanced Tree and Shrub insecticide. I've been using it on potted succulents and bulbs with great effect for root mealies, and no damage to any plant. It is a systemic, and I try to keep it off the plant bodies, (and do a quick rinse anyway.) It only works when the plants are in active growth. Tom
