Beargrass Yucca filamentosa

Since Yuccas are xeric plants, i figured perhaps
several have had experience wth them. A few weeks ago, we encountered
plants of Yucca filamentosa (Beargrass) in a "High pine" ecosystem in Florida
and I was given a seed pod by our guide. The question I have is how to
germinate these seeds? They look like most amaryllid seed, except
drier. I placed some on sand, since that they grow on well-drained sandy
soils but I also floated some, which developed mold and did not germinate
yet.

Thanks,
